Bei strahlendem Sonnenschein bin ich gestern Mittag im knackig kalten Muenchen abgeholt worden. Nach knapp dreimonatigem durchgaengig fast konstant warmen Temperaturen und in Anbetracht der kommenden freien Tage macht sich sofort Weihnachtsstimmung bereit. Ich hoffe doch bis Anfang Januar in Deutschland zu sein - so Gott will. Merry Christmas!

Fluechtlinge aus dem Kongo
Ich bin mit Fred, einem Mitarbeiter, auf dem Weg nach Ishasha, West-Uganda um moeglicherweise den Fluechtlingen aus dem Kongo mit Trinkwasser zu helfen. Wir fahren erstmal mit einer Trinkwasseranlage. Die Situation vor Ort ist fuer uns noch unklar, wir werden jedoch durch unseren Kontakt zum Roten Kreuz bald mehr wissen und ggf. mit mehr Anlagen helfen koennen.

22.10.2008: Sendafa, Ätiopien
Um fuer eine Partnerorganisation eine Begutachtung zu erstellen bin ich kurzfristig fuer zwei Wochen in Ätiopien. Unser Projekt ist Sendafa, eine Kleinstadt mit ca. 15.000 Einwohnern, 35 km nordoestlich von Addis Abeba, der Hauptstadt.

Ich bin hier bei OFF-TU-MISSION, das ist unsere (WMI's) Partnerorganisation und Vertretung in Uganda. Wir haben hier ein größeres Entwicklungsprogram indem wir dieses Jahr 35 Trinkwasseranlagen installieren wollen die insgesamt ca. 35,000 Menschen mit Trinkwasser versorgen können.
Durch die 10 jährige Erfahrung von OFF-TU-MISSION im Bereich Jugendarbeit in Schulen und mit Strassenkindern haben wir einen exzellenten Partner. Deshalb haben wir hier die besten Chancen in Schulen zu helfen.

Erdbeben in Sichuan, China
Die Militaerregierung in Myanmar laesst nach wie vor nur ganz wenige internationale Helfer in die Krisenregion und eine Besserung ist nicht in Sicht. Es sind seit der Katastrophe fast drei Wochen vergangen und die Wahscheinlichkeit von Cholera- und Thypusepidemieausbruechen steigt dramatisch. Falls es zu Ausbruechen kommt, wird sicher ein Vielfaches an medizinischer Versorgung, an Trinkwasser und dann vor allem an sanitaerer Versorgung erforderlich werden.
Da wir von Bangkok aus nicht viel tun koennen, werd ich mit der gleichen Organisation in Dujiangyan, State Sichuan, China unterwegs sein, um im Erdbebengebiet zu helfen. Pat, mit dem ich hierher gekommen bin, wird bis auf weiteres hier bleiben, fuer den Fall das jemand in die Krisenregion darf. Ich fliege am Donnerstag morgen (22.5.) los, der Ruechflug nach Bangkok ist auf den 10.6. gebucht und, so Gott will, bin ich am 11.6. dann zurueck in D. Soweit der Plan. Aus "14 Tage spater wieder in D" wird wohl nun nichts mehr ...

Water Systems Are on the Way to Earthquake-stricken China
CHARLESTON, SC--- Today, at approximately 12:30p.m. EST, Water Missions International (WMI) will deploy six water purification systems from its Charleston, SC facility to China’s Sichuan province to aid survivors of the deadly earthquake that shook on May 12. The six systems, requested by Samaritan’s Purse (SP), will be transported to Charlotte, NC and then airlifted to Chengdu, China on Friday, May 23. An additional six water systems, currently positioned in Bangkok, Thailand, will also be transported to China this week. WMI’s International Project Director, Andre Mergenthaler, will travel from Bangkok to China to assist with installation and operation of the 12 systems. Each water system is assembled by volunteer labor, provides a continuous supply of approximately 10,000 gallons per day, and can be rapidly deployed and installed in only a few hours to purify available surface and shallow well water sources in disaster affected areas.
A deadly, 7.8-magnitude earthquake shook China’s Sichuan province on Monday, May 12, affecting millions of people. To date, the quake and its aftershocks have claimed more than 34,000 lives and left nearly a quarter of a million people injured. The latest reports estimate that another 14,000 people could still be buried beneath the rubble. One week after the disaster, 4.8 million people are homeless and in desperate need of food, shelter, and clean, safe water.

13.05.2008: Katastrophenhilfe Myanmar - Betroffene Gebiete im Irrawaddy Delta
Wegen der Katastrophe in Myanmar komme ich nun doch nicht am 20.5. zurueck sondern fliege morgen (14.5.) mit Pat, einem Ingenieur von Water Missions, nach Bangkok um dann am Freitag oder Samstag nach Yangon, Myanmar zu fliegen, um dort Trinkwasseranlagen aufzubauen!
